United Continental Holdings Inc on Friday announced that United Airlines will launch daily flights between Washington and Doha, via Dubai, next year.

The airline said the new services would start operating from May 1, 2012, subject to government approval.

Doha will be the fourth city in the Gulf region that United serves, in addition to Dubai, Kuwait City and Bahrain.

The airline said it serves more destinations in the Gulf region and Middle East than any other US carrier.

“This new service will improve travel options for our customers at both ends of the route,” said Andrew Buchanan, United’s director of international planning.

“The Doha flights are timed to provide convenient connections to and from destinations across North America.”

United said it will operate the new service with a Boeing 777 aircraft, with a total of 269 seats.

United Continental Holdings Inc is the holding company for both United Airlines and Continental Airlines.

Together with United Express, Continental Express and Continental Connection, these airlines operate an average of 5,717 flights a day to 376 airports on six continents from their US hubs.
