Celebrity couple David and Victoria Beckham have reportedly been offered $1 million to attend the opening party at the Atlantis resort in Dubai. The couple, who live in Los Angeles with their three children, have been asked to be guests of honour at the launch of the luxury hotel in November, according to reports in the UK media.
According to the Sunday People, the owners of the five-star Atlantis have made the offer to the pair to attend the party on November 20 when more than 2,000 celebs, royals and politicians will celebrate the opening of the new hotel.
A source told the paper: “The Beckhams are being paid just to show their faces and mingle with the other stars there.
“The organisers want it to be the party to end all parties and having Posh and Becks there is a massive coup for them.”
On Monday, the hotel’s grand opening party, being headlined by Kylie Minogue, was at the centre of a terrorism scare after British spies uncovered plans to target the lavish event.
There are fears Al-Qaeda is planning to bomb the event on November 20 because it is seen by Islamic extremists as a symbol of decadence in a Muslim country, according to the UK’s Sky News television.
Neither Atlantis or the British embassy in Dubai were immediately available for comment when contacted by Arabian Business.
The 1,539-room resort encompasses a 46-hectare site with 17 hectares of water-themed amusement parks, an open air marine habitat, beaches, boutiques and restaurants.
The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in June raised its terrorism threat level in the UAE to “high”, warning that terrorists could target places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers such as residential compounds, military, oil, transport and aviation interests.
