British Airways is turning a new page when it comes to airport luxury, unveiling a brand-new lounge at Dubai International Airport and another in Miami as part of the airline’s GBP 7 billion transformation programme. The new lounge, developed by global architecture and design firm Gensler and delivered by UAE-based contractor Al Tayer Stocks, is aiming to merge heritage and modernity.

“We are honoured to have partnered with British Airways to carve the path for the global lounge concept being introduced around the world,” said Ashley Dowell, Design Director, Senior Associate at Gensler. “Hospitality-driven and inspired by the heritage of British Airways, combined with the rich vibrancy of each location, the lounges will reflect a global journey framed through a British lens.”

The design strategically extends beyond simply aesthetics. The airline seems to be attempting to reposition itself in the luxury travel market, one that is becoming increasingly competitive. Passenger expectations extend beyond the flight, with lounges and services forming part of the overall experience.

The 5,800-square-foot space is located in Terminal 1 of the Dubai International Airport. The style is distinctly British contemporary but it borrows inspiration from local architecture, evident in its sweeping arches, patterned metal panelling, and mirrored walls.

“These unique spaces have been created with our customers in mind and are the next step in our extensive lounge transformation plan,” said Calum Laming, British Airways’ Chief Customer Officer.

“Whether they’re looking to relax, dine, work or enjoy a drink at the fully staffed bar, there’s something for everyone. We’re proud to bring our brand to life in these spaces, having blended our British originality with each destination’s unique character.”

The lounge’s design language continues onto the menu, promoting the fusion of British and UAE culture. Dishes feature locally-sourced ingredients with a British culinary touch. UAE-founded coffee brand, Coffee Planet, renowned for its premium Arabica beans, is also available alongside Birchall, the airline’s new global British tea partner.

For customers travelling in First Class, an exclusive Concorde Dining Room is available to access with an à la carte menu featuring Middle Eastern signature and British Original favourites. The Dubai and Miami lounges are the beginning of a broader refresh with British Airways already investing in updating spaces in London Gatwick, Lagos, Singapore, Seattle, and Washington Dulles, all designed to establish a consistent, contemporary identity across its global network while tailoring each space to the character of its location.
