Caterer Middle East has reported that the 30 per cent tax on alcohol sales in Dubai is to be suspended for one year, beginning on January 1, 2023.
UPDATE: UAE firms scrap alcohol licence fee
The publication described this as a “trial period”, adding: “During that time, restaurants, bars and hotels purchasing alcohol in Dubai pay 30 percent less than they have done in 2022 and previous years.
Caterer Middle East added: “Confirmation of the move has been sent to industry players, and alcohol companies have already started to contact their customers advising them of the change coming into effect from Sunday January 1.
“It is understood that the Dubai government expects the saving to be passed from venues to customers, making the city a more affordable place to visit in 2023 and also putting it in line with the cost of alcohol in other emirates.”
