Global Village, Dubai’s family entertainment and cultural destination, has announced the extension of its 18th season of operation.

A statement said the extension, which is due to strong demand from visitors for the Global Village pavilions and its Fantasy Island rides, will be until the April 12.

The extension will be for 42 days and will be the longest extension in Global Village’s history, the statement added.

In August, Dubai’s Global Village announced the appointment of Mellors Group Events from the UK to deliver funfair services for the 2013-2014 season following a competitive tender process.

Mellors Group Events worked with the Mayor of London on rides to support the 2012 London Olympics, the Royal Wedding celebrations in Hyde Park for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and the famous South Bank Centre on the River Thames in London.

Global Village is a first for Mellors Group Events to operate in the Middle East.

The funfair element of Global Village takes up the single largest area on the purpose built site located on the Emirates Road in Dubai and is always a strong favourite for families and their children.

Prior to the appointment of Mellors, all funfair rides at Global Village were suspended in January 2013 following an accident in which a visitor died.

The tragedy happened in January when a person was killed by a metal bar which fell from the Freij World Wheel.
