Dubai’s countryside will be developed as a major tourist attraction with helicopter rides, a 100km scenic route, desert sports and nature reserves, hot-air balloons and more.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai announced the development plan in a tweet, saying Dubai is the most beautiful city in the world.
“We have the most beautiful city in the world. Our next goal is to make the emirate’s countryside among the most enjoyable and beautiful,” said Sheikh Mohammed.
Photos shared by Sheikh Mohammed show the stunning desert landscape of the emirate. They show thrilling attractions such as desert helicopter rides, a lake among the dunes, a convoy of camels and signage for a 100km scenic route through the desert.
Detailed in the announcement was the sports initiatives which includes skydiving, hot-air balloons, safari trips, club for remotely controlled planes and cars. The project also intends to be a desert station for sand activities including sand boarding, desert diving and more. Helicopter tours will allow visitors to experience aerial views of the area.
Spanning an area of 2,216 sq. km, encompasses a myriad of development projects and initiatives, the plan seeks to preserve the nature of areas including Lehbab, Margham, Al Marmoom, Al Lisaili, Al Faqaa and Al Aweer, and provide a variety of services and amenities to residents and visitors
“We have issued directives to ensure the Dubai Countryside and Rural Areas Development Master Plan brings direct economic returns for the people residing in these areas.”
“Today, Dubai is the most beautiful city in the world. We also seek to make the rural areas of Dubai some of the most beautiful and enjoyable places,” said Sheikh Mohammed.
