Dubai carrier Emirates flew over 10 million passengers during the summer, as it expected a strong return of travel demand post-pandemic.

The airline operated nearly 35,000 flights to 130 destinations during the busy period, it said in a statement.

“Having anticipated the strong return of travel demand, Emirates worked closely with its airport partners to operate as scheduled, minimise travel disruptions, and take customers to their planned holidays and trips to see friends and family across the world over the summer,” the airline said.

To keep up with summer demand, Emirates earlier reopened its daily services to London Stansted, and increased its flights to 33 cities on popular routes.

The Dubai International Airport (DXB), where Emirates operates from, earlier reported a 162 percent rise in passenger traffic in the first half of the year – hitting 28 million.

Pegged as one of the busiest airports in the world, DXB handled around 155,000 flights in the same period, up 55.9 percent compared to the first half of 2021.

The Dubai carrier also reintroduced ground services in major airports across its network, in anticipation of the busy summer season.

Emirates is currently operating at 74 percent of its pre-pandemic capacity, with plans to increase it up to 80 percent by the end of the year.
