Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain and one of Ras Al Khaimah’s flagship tourism destinations, has temporarily closed all operations as a precautionary measure following significant weather conditions that affected the region between December 17 and 19.
The closure allows specialist teams to carry out comprehensive safety inspections and targeted maintenance across parts of the mountain, particularly in areas impacted by standing water and shifting terrain.
Authorities said the decision was taken to ensure all zones meet Jebel Jais’ strict safety standards before reopening to the public.
As part of the temporary measures, access roads have been closed and essential maintenance works are underway. All visitor experiences at Jebel Jais will remain suspended until further notice while inspections and safety assessments are completed.
The temporary closure impacts all activities, including:
- Jais Flight Zipline
- 1484 by Puro
- Red Rock BBQ
- Via Ferrata
- Bear Grylls Explorers Camp
- Yoga activities at Jais Viewing Deck Park
Visitors have also been advised not to camp in wadis during the current period of unsettled weather.
Recent rainfall has led to standing water in certain areas, increasing the risk of slippery paths and loose rocks. While hiking and climbing areas have not been formally closed, specialist teams are assessing conditions and hikers and climbers are urged to exercise caution and avoid affected routes where necessary.
Reopening will follow a phased approach, with each area assessed individually to ensure the highest safety standards are met before operations resume. Although winter represents the peak season for Jebel Jais, officials said visitor well-being remains the overriding priority.
Donald Bremner, CEO of Marjan Lifestyle, said: “At Jebel Jais, responsible tourism means putting people, nature and safety first. Our mountains are one of the UAE’s most powerful natural assets, and protecting both our visitors and this environment is essential to ensuring they can be enjoyed for generations to come. Taking a cautious, phased approach allows us to maintain the highest standards while preserving the authentic mountain experiences that define Jebel Jais.”
Maintenance teams remain active on site, with further updates to be issued as work progresses.
