The Rezidor Group has confirmed it will open a new hotel in Mecca by 2010 under the Radisson SAS Hotels and Resorts brand.
The 256-room Al Diyafah Radisson Hotel will offer four restaurants, six meeting rooms and a separate male and female spa.
It will also have a 1250m² ballroom catering for larger functions such as weddings.
Rezidor vice president Jean-Marc Busato said the hotel would be the group’s sixth project in the KSA – considered a growth market.
“This is an important milestone for us to be present in what is considered to be the holiest city in Islam,” he said.
The hotel will cater to the city’s growing corporate and MICE market, as well as religious tourism, being located 3km from the Haram (or the mosque of the prophet).
“We have acquired a good understanding of the Saudi Arabian market,” Busato said. “Besides developing our first class Radisson brand, we also see a demand for efficient, value for money accommodation for the frequent traveler in the mid-market segment.”
Rezidor manages four hotels across the KSA.
