Saudi security minister survives assassination bid

Fourth attempt on Prince Muhammad’s life foiled late last year – report.

A plot by two Al-Qaeda operatives to kill Saudi Arabia’s assistant minister for security affairs was recently foiled, a local newspaper has claimed.

Prince Muhammad Bin Naif Bin Abdul Aziz had already survived three attempts on his life previous to the incident, which was prevented when security agents confronted the two terrorists at the Hamra Al Darb checkpoint in south-western Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Gazette reported.

Yusuf Al Shehri and Raed Al Harbi, who were armed with explosive belts, were both killed during the shootout.

Prince Muhammad was the subject of assassination attempt last year at his palace in Jeddah, when terrorist Abdullah Asiri detonated an explosive device. Asiri was killed, and Prince Muhammad was slightly injured.

This latest attempt came “several months” after the incident at Prince Muhammad’s Jeddah palace, security sources told the newspaper.
