The Kuwait workforce increased by 63,000 people in the first three months of the year, according to a joint report by the Central Department of Statistics and the Public Authority for Manpower
Between January 1 and the end of March, 2023 an additional 63,000 people joined the labour market, said a report in Arabic language daily Al Qabas.
It brings the total number of people working in Kuwait to 2.853m
Expats in Kuwait
It marks a significant increase on the previous year.
Although Kuwaitis represent the largest number of employees in the public sector, with 468,328 people working for the Government by the end of Q1, there has been a marked increase in the number of expat workers in the country.
Indians, in particular, were joining the labour market in large numbers. 22,993 Indians entered the work market in the first three months of the year.
It brings the total number of Indians working across al sectors in Kuwait to 857,671.
Egypt followed behind, with 486,656 now working in the country, an increase of 3,473.
Rounding out the top five of the local job market are Kuwaitis, with 444,842, Filipinos and Bangladeshi citizens.
According to the report there are now 468,328 employees in the country’s Government sector.
The domestic worker sector has seen a major surge in new workers.
29,886 new domestic workers were registered in the Central Department of Statistics study.
This brings the total number of domestic workers in Kuwait to 780,183. The vast majority are Indian, with 347,000 employees.
Almost 99 per cent of domestic workers in the country come from the following 10 countries (in order of number of workers:
