Weeks after her Dubai trip, US reality TV star calls time on ‘fairytale’ marriage
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian filed for divorce Monday, just 72 days after marrying basketball player Kris Humphries in a lavish wedding that was billed as a "fairytale."
Kardashian, 31, star of the TV show ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians,’ filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court citing irreconcilable differences.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best," Kardashian said in a statement.
The court papers show Kardashian has asked the court to confirm that jewellery and other personal items, as well as earnings before and during the marriage, be considered separate property. It also notes the couple has a prenuptial agreement.
Kardashian and Humphries married on August 20 in southern California in a wedding reported to have cost $10m, after dating for about nine months. More than three million US viewers watched a two-part TV special earlier this month called ‘Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian event.’
But claims of tension in the marriage erupted quickly and have spread across entertainment media for the past week. Some reports have suggested Humphries, a 26-year-old New Jersey Nets basketball player, was reluctant to play his role in the Kardashian brand, and there were differences over where the newlyweds would make their home.
This is the second divorce for Kardashian, who was previously married to music producer Damon Thomas for four years, separating in 2004. Since then, the reality star has had a number of high-profile relationships including R&B singer Ray-J and American football player Reggie Bush.
Kardashian is one of the highest-paid reality stars on US television with 2010 earnings estimated at $6m from her TV show, clothing line, perfume, jewellery and tanning cream and other product endorsements and appearances. For all the latest lifestyle news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
Who did not see this coming? Really? After seeing her break down on her reality show and hide from her fiance because she wasn't comfortable sharing this side of herself with him- I questioned how well they really knew each other and whether either was emotionlly mature enough for a marriage> let alone a serioud relationship. He wanted a somewhat normal life and she wanted him to cater to her life and deal with all of her prima donna behaviors- not really a 50/50 type committment! He wanted to be the priority and i belive she always put herself and then her career before her HUSBAND! They could have helped to feed many thousands of hungry kids in our country for what was wasted on this farce of a celebration! What a waste! What a sad example to set for young women as well! She sould have called it off before making this sacrament seem like nothing more than a publicity stunt and a joke! Grow up people! The rest of us are trying to support our families and pay for our basic needs!
Makes a mockery of the institution of marriage. No more K milk shakes for me !!!
Well said Rhonda! I don't like reality TV anyway, my own life is exciting enough, but I shall emphatically dissassociate myself from this mindless drivel. Can someone out there enlighten me as to why anybody would watch the Kardashians?
I had never heard of her untill a friend exitedly emailed me and told me of the scripture that was inscribed inside her ring. I Googled her and found out that the couple were not prparing for marriage but divorce as they had completed all the arrangements for a wedding down to the finest detail of a "pre-nuptial contact", which is preparation for a divorce. This in itself is where the mockery of the Sanctity of Marriage was betrayed with an escape clause to their vows.
