Kuwait’s Alshaya inks franchise deal for The Cheesecake Factory

Gulf deal is US chain’s first overseas move, 22 outlets to be built in five years

Kuwait’s Alshaya inks franchise deal for The Cheesecake Factory
Alshaya plans to open 1,250 new stores over the next five years

The Cheesecake Factory Inc, the New York-listed restaurant
chain, has signed a deal with Kuwait’s MH Alshaya Co to franchise its outlets
across the Gulf in its first overseas expansion.

The deal allows for 22 restaurants to be built over the next
five years in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, the two firms
said in a statement.

Alshaya retains the right to expand the franchise to cover
the Middle East, North Africa, and Central and Eastern Europe.

Mohammed Alshaya, chairman of Alshaya’s retail arm, said the
deal will build on the firm’s reputation for launching high-profile American
brands.

“We continuously ask consumers in the Middle East to tell us
which U.S.-based casual dining restaurants they want most in their local markets.
The Cheesecake Factory is always at the top of the list,” he said.

Retail giant Alshaya operates 2,000 stores across 15
countries, and counts brands such as Starbucks, Pizza Express, American Eagle
and Pottery Barn in its portfolio.

In November, the company said it planned to open 1,250 new
stores over the next five years.

But it's NOT new. The Cheescake Factory was in the UAE 10 years ago, (I used to shop at the Diyafah St branch) closed down, and is now - evidently- returning. Just clarifying the facts. Thanks.

i went to the cheese cake factory in the US and it was totally awesome! But here they wont be able to use the same ingredients as they do over there. I have had cheese cake many times in Dubai and it is rubbish.

Suleyman,

The place you referred to was a copy of the original name and was rubbish. It was nothing like a real Cheescake Factory.

I have visited many CF locations across the USA and love their business. I do think that it will be tough to re-create the US model here, but let's hope Alshaya can.

People in the GCC have wanted this brand and concept for many many years and finally it is coming. Enjoy!!

If anyone can do justice to CF then Alshaya can - they are good at replicating the concepts here - just look at PF Changs, Boots, Pinkberry, etc. Just like back home.

It will not be tough to re-create the US model here, since Alshaya can do it without much hassles. As I am working there, we can assure that we have proved it with many Other US brands, which is now locally available with the real taste & flavour.
