Amidst dramatic scenes outside the Islamabad High Court, Rangers arrested former Pakistan prime minister and Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan.
The cricketer-turned-politician had gone to Islamabad High Court to seek bail in multiple FIRs registered against him in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
Khan was removed from power in April last year after he lost a vote of confidence in the parliament and is facing dozens of cases. An assassination attempt was also made on his life later last year in November during a public rally, in which he was wounded.
PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry confirmed the arrest in a tweet.
“Islamabad High Court has been occupied by Rangers, lawyers are being subjected to torture, Imran Khan’s car has been surrounded,” Chaudhry tweeted moments before Khan’s arrest.
Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Islamabad, confirmed the arrest of Khan to GEO TV.
Khan has maintained his innocence and said all corruption charges against him are politically motivated.
