Sharjah ruler Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has issued a decree to establish the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy.
The new decree stipulates that the Academy will enjoy financial and administrative independence and will be owned by the Government of Sharjah, state news agency WAM reported.
The new Academy aims to providebachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees with professional and training programmes for all ages in the fields of performing arts, it said.
According to the decree, the Academy shall have a chairman to assume its general supervision on a three year term.
The Academy’s funds will be deemed as public funds and exempted from all local government taxes and fees.
Last year, neighbouring Fujairah said it is planning to set up an arts academy to train students in disciplines such as calligraphy, painting, ballet and music.
Ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi issued a new law to establish the Fujairah Fine Arts Academy, which will be owned by the Government of Fujairah and located in Fujairah City.
