Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo will play for the Saudi club Al Nassr from January 1, 2023, the Saudi Gazette reported citing news from Spanish media.
Ronaldo will reportedly sign in on a two-and-a-half year contract with the Saudi club, according to Spanish sport daily newspaper MARCA.
The 37-year-old striker, who ended his relationship with Manchester United a few days ahead of the Qatar World Cup, will agree to a $217 million yearly contract.
Despite the claims that he would have clubs in the Champions League lining up to sign him, Saudi Gazette said, Al-Nassr was the one that showed more interest from the beginning.
“Ronaldo had been hoping to stay in Europe’s elite club competition contract, in addition to the hefty signing-on fee (just under 100 million Euros) is accompanied by financial incentives via advertising, which will make the Portuguese the highest-paid sportsman in the world,” the report said.
Given that Ronaldo agrees to the contract with Al Nassr, the player will be valued close to 200 million euros per season, the report added.
Ronaldo will be coached by France’s Rudi Garcia at Al Nasser, and will be partnered by Alvaro Gonzalez.
According to reports, Ronaldo and his family are currently in Dubai, and are awaiting confirmation of the arrangement, which also involves advertising agreements.
