Jordanian Alaa Kutkut is a multiple medal winning taekwondo champion and has represented her country in numerous events around the world. She was the recipient of a silver medal at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand, at the tender age of 14. Eight years later, Kutkut repeated that feat at the Doha Asian Games with another silver medal – an incredible feat considering she was also completing her studies to become a doctor.
Kutkut showed great promise in the sport from an early age, beginning her taekwondo career at the age of nine by taking part in local competitions. She quickly moved onto national and international representation, all before she turned 14.
In 1999, she won gold at the Ninth Pan Arab Games held in Amman. In 2006 she was awarded the Black Iris Sportsmwoman of the Year award – an award decided by the Jordan media. The following year she came third in the 2007 Arab Sports Awards, a regionally conducted poll that saw the young Jordanian grab 18.21 percent of the 14,714 votes.
