In 2008, Kholoud Ahmed Al Dhaheri made history in the UAE when she was appointed the first woman judge in the country’s court of first instance, a profession that was until her appointment reserved for men only.
“I will endeavour to perform my functions with utmost (competence)…in order to provide a successful model of Emirati women working in the judiciary,” Al Dhaheri said at the time of her appointment. Al Dhaheri graduated in law and shariah from the UAE University.
