A facilities management professional with over 20 years’ international experience, eight years in the Middle East, Markus Oberlin was appointed CEO of Farnek Avireal from general manager in 2012. In his expanded role, Oberlin has taken on broader strategic responsibilities. At the time of his appointment he was keen to press forward with the company’s sustainability objectives, and has done so.
Under Oberlin’s direction so far, Farnek Avireal has notched up significant milestones, including the launch of its own internet-based Hotel Optimiser energy benchmarking tool for the region and winning the Emirates Environmental Award in the same year. It also picked up Green FM Company of the Year at the 2012 fmME awards for its clear-cut programmes towards being sustainable, and was a finalist for the same category in 2013.
Remo Stoffen, chairman of Avireal Switzerland, said Oberlin was the “driving force” behind the company’s successful growth in the UAE, and has championed carbon reduction and management initiatives to Farnek’s client portfolio.
Oberlin continues to be the primary spokesperson for Farnek Avireal and oversee day-to-day operations as well as act in an advisory capacity to the board, providing expert insight and recommendations on industry sector opportunity and government directives.
