When Harib first wrote FREEJ, a six page study book at just 19 years old, he had no idea that it would change his life forever. The cartoonist’s first big break arrived in 2003 when FREEJ was adopted by Dubai Media City, which translated it to screen with funding from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders (SMEs).
In September 2005, Lammtara Pictures was established to oversee production and in September 2006, the series, about four elderly national ladies living in a rapidly evolving Dubai, premiered.
Harib’s concept was an instant success, particularly among UAE nationals and the series went from strength to strength. The show now airs on TV channel Dubai One with English subtitles. Two DVDs were released last year.
