Jasmine Al Fayed, oldest daughter of controversial Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed, faced a barrage of criticism when she first opened her store in the Harrods fashion department in 2003. There was, of course, the inevitable accusations of nepotism as she used her father’s name to propel her fashion label, Jasmine di Milo, onto the international fashion circuit.
Scathing critics also criticised her decision not to complete her degree at the London College of Fashion and Central St Martins, instead opting to serve a one year apprenticeship in the sewing rooms at Harrods.
Six years later though, the media shy daughter of the former Miss Finland has proved her critics wrong. Her fashion designs, which are now stocked in more than 44 countries, are regularly seen on the backs of the A-list crowd; Thandie Newton, Sienna Miller and Anne Hathaway. Victoria Beckham is even said to be a fan, proving that Jasmine isn’t just a Daddy’s girl.
