Few can argue Badr Jafar’s accomplishments are that of an ordinary man. His roles as the chief executive of multinational business Crescent Enterprises, president of privately owned oil and gas firm Crescent Petroleum, and chairman of joint venture Gas Cities, as well as the largest private container port operator Gulftainer, and Pearl Petroleum are enough to set him apart from many a businessperson in the field.
But it is not merely in business that the Emirati national and grandson of Iraq’s former development minister excels. Jafar is a social entrepreneur in his own right, having founded non-profit venture Pearl Initiative in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Partnerships to enhance transparency across the Gulf. He is a strong advocate of social entrepreneurship and often speaks out about issues affecting entrepreneurs.
