Maryam Bahlooq quickly became one of the most prominent CEOs in the Gulf when she was appointed the first female head of a leading banking institution in the region in June. Dubai-based Emirates NBD promoted Bahlooq to CEO of Tanfeeth, a fully-owned subsidiary of the Emirates NBD Group.
Bahlooq has worked for Emirates NBD for 17 years in the human resources department, heading recruitment, nationalisation and business partnership. She has been particularly praised for her ability to manage the people management aspect of the bank’s mergers and acquisitions, both local and international. She will now be responsible for more than 2,700 employees at Tanfeeth, a shared services company established in 2011 to manage Emirates NBD’s operations and customer service. Bahlooq says she hopes to use her prominent appointment to help mentor other women seeking similar leadership roles.
