Company: Alserkal Avenue
Country of residence: United Arab Emirates
Abdelmomen Alserkal has been at the forefront of Dubai’s creative economy, having the vision to create the first arts and culture precinct in the UAE, Alserkal Avenue, 10 years ago. Described as an entrepreneur, visionary, real estate developer and patron of the arts, the Emirati blended all of his skills to turn a bunch of dilapidated warehouses in Al Quoz into internationally-recognised art galleries, hip cafes and inspiring art spaces.
Alserkal Avenue’s success has seen a few expansions, including the inauguration in March of Concrete, a flexible 600-square-metre concrete area that can be configured for indoor or outdoor experiences, such as art performances.
Alserkal also serves on the British Museum’s Contemporary and Modern Middle Eastern Art Acquisition Group, Tate’s Middle East and North Africa Acquisition Committee and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation’s Middle Eastern Circle. He and his family have twice been awarded the Patron of the Arts award twice by the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
