A strong advocate of empowering communities in healthcare, Dr Maryam Matar has a strong background in sustainable development, strategic planning and leadership, having been the first woman director general of the Community Development Authority (CDA).
In 2004, she set up the Genetic Diseases Association, a national body on genetic disorders, which has screened 37,281 Emirati families.
