Company: Wamda Capital
Designation: Executive chairman
He made history when his courier firm Aramex in Dubai became the first Arab company to be listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange, but Fadi Ghandour has since become known as the ‘father of entrepreneurship’ in the region. He is the executive chairman of Wamda Capital, a regional venture capital firm which focuses not only on deploying growth capital in MENA, but also on supporting entrepreneurs through mentorship and counsel.
This year, Wamda launched a fellowship programme, Wamda X, to attract promising entrepreneurs from the MENA region with grants of $16,000 plus support including mentorship and a working space in Dubai Design District (d3). The programme will run for four months and will begin in the middle of the first quarter of 2019. Ghandour is also the founder and chairman of Ruwwad for Development, an initiative which helps communities in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Egypt overcome marginalisation.
