Echouafni is wanted in the US for allegedly hiring cyber-hackers to launch attacks against his company’s competitors when he worked as head of a satellite communications company in Los Angeles. He was exposed in 2003 by the FBI as part of an investigation codenamed Operation Cyberslam.
His crimes are said to have disrupted computers in private and government businesses for up to two weeks, causing nearly $1m worth of losses.
Echouafni, who is identifiable by a distinctive mole on his face, is believed to be residing in Morocco.
