Nabeel Bin Salamah took on the top job at Kuwaiti telco giant Zain last year. The former communications minister plans to double the firm’s net profit by 2014 and reach a whopping 52 million customers.
Elsewhere, the telecoms giant has extensive operations in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Sudan — as Zain — and in Lebanon as mtc touch (under a management contract). In 2009, it was part of a major consortium that acquired a 31 percent stake in Moroccan telco Wana.
