Designation: Governor

Rashid Mohammed Al Maraj is Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, which is responsible for maintaining monetary and financial stability in the kingdom. It is also the sole regulator of Bahrain’s financial sector, covering the full range of banking, insurance, investment business and capital markets activities.

Al Maraj has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering degree from the University of Houston, Texas, as well as a Diploma in Project Evaluation from Strathclyde University in the UK.

He began his career in 1979 as an engineer at the Ministry of Industry and Development in Manama. Two years later he became assistant undersecretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, before taking the role of undersecretary at the Ministry of Transportation in 1995. From 1999 to 2005 Al Maraj was general manager and CEO of Arab Petroleum Investments Corp in Saudi Arabia, before returning to Bahrain.
