Phillipe Dessoy has spurred BESIX into becoming one of the most respected and competitive foreign firms in the region, efficient as both sole contractor and JV partner.
With the company’s expertise stamped all over the Burj Khalifa and the Downtown Burj Dubai residential towers – it was co-builder on the project along with Arabtec – Dessoy has helped drive BESIX to prominence across the region.
Sheikh Zayed Bridge, one of the most eye-catching infrastructure projects in the region, further showcased both the company’s capability and its efficiency, as it completed the project in just eight months.
Other important contract wins include the $797m Doha Convention Centre, a project won with MIDMAC in 2009, that beat Hyundai and another JV; the $265m contract to build Bahrain’s North Manama Causeway; and Abu Dhabi’s Cleveland Clinic.
Innovation is a strong part of the BESIX philosophy, as with the controversial spire that went on top of the Burj Khalifa. Through customary good teamwork with other engineers, in this case from Samsung, the challenge was overcome.
