Mahmoud Wael

Designation: Boy genius

Mahmoud Weal, or Moody as he’s known to friends and family, has an IQ of 155 — thirteen points above the average. The wunderkind can work out the most complicated calculations in a matter of seconds, learnt English in three months, and now has advanced French and German.

Moody was three and a half when his father realised something was out of the ordinary. Moody’s older sister was being tested on her multiplication tables. When she stalled at seven times seven, Moody quickly chimed in with 49, then went on to answer the tables correctly up to twelve times twelve.

Today Moody is an avid football fan, rooting for Brazil and his favourite player, Ronaldinho. Like any youngster he likes watching cartoons, playing computer games, and playing football with friends.

He has said he wants to be a mathematician or a scientist when he grows up, like his role model Ahmed Zewail, the Egyptian 1999 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry.

Zewail “is a good scientist and from Egypt, and he did a good thing for people, a new thing that people didn’t know. That is what I wish [to do],” says Moody.
