A darling of both the critics and the public, actress Sulafa Memar has established herself as one of Syria’s leading lights on the small screen.
Buoyed by the rising popularity of Syrian dramas, Memar has won a clutch of awards for her artistic talents, including Best Syrian Actress in 2009, as voted for by readers of Al Thawra newspaper.
She played a key role in the drama series ‘
Disgraced Time
’ that, following its screening during the last year’s Ramadan — the Arab world’s peak television period — won over legions of viewers. The show went on to net the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum prize for Best Arabian Drama.
Memar studied English Literature at Damascus University, before going on to study drama at Syria’s Higher Institutes of Arts and Drama. She is married to well-known Syrian producer Saif El Deen Subai.
