Alan Horne, as head of Bahrain’s telecoms watchdog, is responsible for developing the country’s rapidly expanding broadband network. At the start of the month, Bahrain’s TRA invited consultancy firms to submit proposals to design and build a testing platform for broadband internet.
Central to the idea of a testing platform is greater transparency to monitor the performance of service providers in Bahrain. The platform would test things like download and upload speed.
“We are aiming to ensure the kingdom have access to reliable broadband services based on international best practices, to support economic growth and the social goals outlined in the 2030 economic vision of Bahrain,” Horne said in May.
Horne has been in the telecoms industry for more than 30 years, beginning his career with British Telecom (BT) before moving to Phillips and Mitel Telecom.
He founded InterConnect Communications in 1984 and grew the company into an international consultancy advising on all aspects of telecoms regulation.
In 2001 he sold the company to the US’s Telcordia Technologies.
