As the “first Gulf designer” Walid Atallah is one of this year’s new entries on the Power List.
A native of Beirut, Atallah studied fashion design at the University of Chicago before starting his fashion design career in Dubai. Dubai, he says is the ideal location for the East meets West designs he favours.
Lebanese artist Najwa Karam was the guest of honor at his first fashion show in 1996 which opened to industry acclaim while the Burj Al Arab provided the ideal backdrop for his second show.
Atallah’s designs, which include prêt-a-porter, abaya and wedding collections, are now featured around the world. Celebrity fans include artists Diana Haddad, May Hariri and Hoda Haddad.
He was the first designer to introduce jewellery and precious stones as an integral part of his designs. Furthermore, Walid Atallah signed one of his wedding dress valued at US$1.2m.
