Abdulla Al Hamli was promoted to CEO of Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) in 2008, after working at the bank for nine years. DIB, which offers banking and investment services under a Sharia-compliant structure, is in the process of finalising increasing its stake in mortgage provider Tamweel to 100 percent from 86.5 percent. DIB repaid in April a AED3.75bn deposit, which it received from the UAE’s Ministry of Finance in lieu of the global financial crisis, ahead of maturity. In the first quarter 2013, DIB net income reached AED282m, a fifteen percent year-on-year increase.
