National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah, known as Rakbank, is based in the UAE’s most northern emirate with a 52.75 percent stake owned by its government. Focusing on the UAE market where it operates 33 branches, Rakbank offers retail and corporate banking services and is listed in Abu Dhabi. The bank posted a thirteen percent rise in first quarter net profit to AED368m. However, the lender, along with Oman’s Bank Muscat, recently fell victim to one of the world’s biggest bank heists when a cyber crime gang hacked into credit card processing companies, stealing $45m by withdrawing from ATM machines in 27 countries.
