Abu Dhabi went out of this world when it linked up with Brit
tycoon Richard Branson, taking a $280m stake in his firm Virgin Galactic. The
company plans to launch the world’s first commercial spacecraft, able to fly
between Abu Dhabi and LA in just two hours.
Flights start at a modest $200,000.
The deal was signed by the emirate’s investment vehicle
Aabar Investments and amounts to a 32 percent stake in the venture. Aabar is 71
percent owned by Abu Dhabi’s state-controlled International Petroleum
Investment Company.
