An obstetrician, gynecologist and assistant professor at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Dr Al Amoudi diagnosed herself with breast cancer in April 2006, during which she wrote a series of articles about her experience in a weekly column that was published in the Al Madinah newspaper.
By highlighting her own experiences, Al Amoudi has brought the issue of breast cancer to the forefront in a part of the world where symptoms frequently go untreated. She is the author of 13 books.
