A large crowd of international celebrities, including Princess Haya Bint Al-Hussein of Jordan, Pavarotti’s second wife Nicoletta Mantovani and British musician Sting (Gordon Sumner) gathered at the historical archaeological site to pay tribute to the artist. The event was capped off with a memorial charity concert that will raise money for projects in Afghanistan by UNHCR and the UN World Food Program. (Getty Images)

Salute Petra is a three day event organised by Harvey Goldsmith and Nicoletta Pavarotti celebrating the life of Pavarotti. The weekend takes place on the anniversary of his birthday, the 12th October. Due to Pavarotti’s friendship with the Jordanian Royal Family, HRH Princess Haya of Jordan and the Government of Jordan have allowed the weekend to take place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra.
