Saudi Arabia and Morocco have signed a new executive programme aimed at strengthening cooperation in renewable energy and energy efficiency, building on existing ties between the two countries.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, met in Riyadh with Leila Benali, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, to discuss areas of mutual interest, including renewable energy development.

Following the meeting, the two ministers signed the executive programme under the memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation signed between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Morocco in May 2022.

The programme is designed to expand mutual investment and enable national companies from both countries to implement renewable energy projects domestically and in third markets. Cooperation will cover renewable power generation, energy storage, grid integration, electricity transmission and grid development.

It also supports the integration of renewable energy into development and infrastructure projects, as well as the delivery and operation of projects powered by clean energy sources.

In addition, the programme provides for the establishment of research and training centres to advance renewable energy technologies, strengthen capacity building and promote knowledge transfer.

Officials said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to deepening clean energy cooperation and supporting the growth of renewable energy sectors in both countries.
