e& Enterprise CEO Salvador Anglada has outlined an ambitious vision positioning the UAE as a frontrunner in the global artificial intelligence landscape, backed by significant infrastructure investments and talent development initiatives.
Speaking at GITEX 2024, Anglada revealed a landmark $1 billion partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as part of this strategic push. The collaboration aims to educate more than 6,000 people and bring 600 new AI experts to the region, significantly boosting the local technology ecosystem.
“It’s unique in itself because nothing has happened like that in the region,” Anglada told Arabian Business. “This investment will boost the evolution of services and the way customers are going to use AI.”
The telecommunications giant has already established a dedicated AI unit with approximately 100 data scientists and architects working on more than 200 use cases. The company is also launching a new academy focused on training corporate executives and management in AI implementation.
Addressing infrastructure needs, Anglada highlighted the UAE’s strategic advantage as a technology hub. “The UAE has understood how important its location is as a hub to provide these services both to the east and west,” he explained, highlighting the country’s investments in data centres through initiatives like Khazna.
The CEO identified two critical challenges in global AI adoption: talent development and infrastructure requirements. “It’s not just about the famous GPUs, but also about data centres and even energy,” he noted, adding that e& is actively working to address both aspects.
Looking toward the future, Anglada predicted that the combination of generative AI and quantum computing would define the next technological revolution. “The combination of both AI with quantum computing will help us to accelerate in an exponential way the adoption of technology in the world,” he concluded.
Through these initiatives, e& Enterprise is playing a crucial role in establishing the UAE as a global AI powerhouse, focusing on both the fundamental infrastructure and the human capital needed to drive innovation in the AI era.
