Union Coop has revealed measures were taken to “ration supplies” of personal hygiene products in the UAE.
A statement from the company said there had been a surge in demand for hand sanitisers and other similar hygiene products, in light of the coronavirus crisis.
According to a report on the Emirates News Agency site, it went on to say how this prompted the Union Coop to “ration supplies” and take the “necessary steps to ensure a smooth shopping experience for customers”.
However, Dr. Suhail Al Bastaki, director of happiness and marketing department at Union Coop, has insisted that supplies are “sufficient”.
He said: “Personal care supplies, especially hand sanitisers are available in sufficient quantities that meet the need of shoppers in all Union Coop branches.”
He stressed that sanitiser prices have not risen, noting that such changes “violate Union Coop’s policy”.
The spread of the coronavirus throughout the world has led to widespread scenes of panic buying.
