According to police, the accident occurred when a minibus struck a cement barrier, leaving the vehicle on its side and on fire.

Two people lost their lives and another 12 were left injured after an accident on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, it was announced on Sunday.

Brigadier General Saif Al Mazrouei, the director of the Dubai Police’s general traffic department, said that the incident occurred at approximately 8.30am.

In a separate incident, a number of people were injured when a vehicle struck a lorry on Al Khawaneej Road.

“Traffic congestion due to multiple accidents on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road after Dubai Al Ain Bridge towards Abu Dhabi, kindly take extra caution,” police said on Twitter. “Also traffic congestion on Sheikh Zayed Road on Al Manara bridge towards Abu Dhabi.”
