Dubai hosted a record number of international business events last year.
A total of 212 business events and international conferences were held in Dubai during 2017, an increase of 64 percent on the previous year.
The various events across the emirate attracted in the region of about 95,000 participants, a generated $194 million (AED715m) in revenues.
Issam Kazem, CEO of Dubai Corporation of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said that the significant increase in the number of hosting bids won by Dubai in 2017 “reflects the rapid growth of the city as a leading business hub.”
Director of Dubai Business Events, Steen Jakobsen added, “Year by year, Dubai strengthens its position as a leading destination for business events, international conferences and a centre of learning, as we were able to achieve an unprecedented performance in 2017 which goes in line with Dubai Tourism 2020’s vision to attract 20 million visitors annually by the next decade. Our aim is to take advantage of this momentum to elevate the city’s reputation.”
