DEWA reveals secret in supplying uninterrupted power to Dubai

‘Best in Class’ and award-winning periodic preventive maintenance, which also leads to a saving of over AED2 million annually, is the key

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said its periodic preventive maintenance helps save more than AED2 million in cost annually, making it the ‘Best in Class’ among global utilities since 2018.

The preventive maintenance of its power transmission networks also contributes to achieving 100 percent reliability and availability of power in Dubai.

The company, which got listed on Dubai Financial Market in April this year, conducts regular preventive maintenance work based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality, data science, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the latest cybersecurity technologies, thermal images and functional tests.

DEWA is also developing several specialised uses for the electricity and water networks through its Space D-programme, enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness, which leads to improved resilience and agility in monitoring and controlling the networks.

The first utility in the region to adopt the Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) strategy, DEWA has also received the ISO 55001: 2014 Certificate for Asset Management. It is the first utility in the world to receive the prestigious award for integrating high-quality asset management in operations pertaining to the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity and water.
