The latest graduate outlook survey from CFA Institute revealed that Emirati graduates have significant confidence in their future careers compared to global peers.
The 2024 survey interviewed 500 Emirati nationals and found 92 percent feel assured about prospects, exceeding the worldwide average of 78 percent. Emiratis also felt better informed about what employers want, with 93 percent reporting they knew their required skills versus 81 percent globally.
Finance continues as the top career choice for Emirati graduates, followed closely by IT and telecommunications. This aligns with finance being the number one sector preferred by 30 percent of all respondents for a second consecutive year.
The UAE aims to develop as a regional and international finance hub, boosting demand for highly qualified individuals. This shows the symbiotic relationship between Emirati talents and the country’s economic goals.
The survey also uncovered a rising trend of Emiratis wanting careers where they can contribute positively to society and the environment. 93 percent said such roles are important. Over half, 57 percent, are influenced by a company’s commitments to environmental, social and governance issues when considering jobs.
“The UAE’s dedication to fostering local talent is unwavering, as evidenced by a multitude of initiatives and strategic investments across pivotal sectors,” Peter Watkins, Senior Director of University Programs at CFA Institute said.
Programmes such as Nafis and Ethraa from the Emirates Institute of Finance support the CFA program locally to improve skills, broaden access to private sector opportunities and heighten employment chances, he added.
“I personally have been part of the CFA programme and must say it gave me a better lens of the sector I’m in. These programs have not only opened doors to numerous opportunities but also ensured we are equipped with the necessary skills and certifications. Being part of these initiatives has assured me that my future career prospects are bright and that the government is deeply invested in nurturing Emirati talent,” Saif Al Katheeri, an investment banker and finance graduate said.
“My major in economics and finance, complemented by the CFA Level I certification, has equipped me with essential knowledge and skills that are highly valued in the job market. The support from programs like Ethraa has been instrumental in my professional development, providing a solid foundation and excellent resources to succeed in a competitive landscape,” Abdulaziz Tarmoom, a CFA Level II candidate and finance graduate added.
