Author Archives: Jyoti Guptara
When Jyoti Guptara dropped out of school at the age of 15 to follow his passion as a full-time writer and storyteller, many thought he was making the worst decision of his life. On the contrary. Two years later, he was invited back by his school to speak as a bestselling novelist.
Now a celebrated story strategist, speaker & bestselling author of Business Storytelling from Hype to Hack, Jyoti Guptara helps purpose-driven companies scale their influence with strategic narratives and narrative strategies with key focus on leadership storytelling, creating organizational story banks, and virtual reality storytelling. He helps organisations and business leaders use storytelling for more success with less stress.
Of British and Indian descent, Jyoti lives in Switzerland and is a citizen of the UK as well as of Switzerland. He has a twin brother, Suresh, with whom he shares a close bond. Writing together from a very young age, the twins published a fantasy trilogy that sold over 100,000 copies in four languages. Jyoti is the also the author of a business biography and two thrillers (co-authored with Oxford University writer-in-residence Davis Bunn, aka Thomas Locke).
Despite being a successful novelist, Jyoti did not initially see the value of storytelling in business. His expertise in business storytelling came during his time as a Fellow and Writer-in-Residence at a United Nations partner organization. There, he realized that some of the best content came after and between presentations, informally – when people told stories. He was invited to apply his decade of experience with fiction to executive education, helping business leaders find and tell stories to give better talks, pitch ideas, and influence meetings.
Counted among the “100 Most Important Swiss”, the author was awarded a Scroll of Honour for Special Services by the County of Los Angeles for philanthropy, literary achievement, and inspiring other young people.
Today, Jyoti Guptara consults internationally with clients in many countries, and has lectured by invitation on four continents. He has worked with, for example, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Telekom, Roche, World Vision, WPP, the Global Humanitarian Forum, the Global Peter Drucker Forum, various governmental departments such as the ministries of education of the Kanton Zurich, the University of St. Gallen, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy and The United Nations.
His amazon bestseller Business Storytelling from Hype to Hack explains why Forbes calls storytelling the most important business skill, and shows how you can master the skill enjoyably – before your competition does.
