Celebrated Indian fashion designer Rohit Bal is in critical condition and is on ventilator support, media reports said.
He is reportedly admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, near Delhi, following a cardiac emergency, HT City reported.
Bal, 62, has a pre-existing cardiac condition, according to the report.
The ace Indian fashion designer, who has showcased his collections at numerous fashion shows around the world, has made clothes for India’s top actors as well as international celebrities such as Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson and Uma Thurman.
He designed the saree for British actor Elizabeth Hurley for her wedding in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur in 2007.
Bal is known for combining edgy styles with distinctly Indian crafts. He recently launched a menswear collection, called “Balance”, for autumn-winter 2023.
He started his career in 1986 with Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd that he co-founded with his brother. He debuted his solo collection in 1990.
The designer, born into a Kashmiri Pandit family in Srinagar, Bal earned a History degree from Delhi’s St Stephen’s College. He then studied fashion at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Delhi.
