An Emirati man, his sister, and her friend have been fined for a dog attack on a family at a Fujairah beach, according to a report by The National.

The incident, which occurred last December, saw the unlicensed dog attack a mother and her two children.

The trio was each fined AED10,000, by the Fujairah Court of First Instance, for owning the dog without a license, while the two women were fined an additional AED10,000 for endangering lives.

The court found them negligent in handling the dog in public, the report said.

The attack took place when the sister and her friend took the dog for a walk on the beach. The animal became aggressive and attacked Nadyah Ahmed and her children.

Ahmed engaged in a fierce struggle with the dog to protect her children, sustaining injuries in the process. Her son sustained injuries to his back and legs, while her daughter suffered injuries to her thighs, legs, and arms.

During questioning, the dog owner admitted that he had not obtained a license for the animal from relevant authorities in the emirate.

His sister said that the dog was on a leash but managed to break free while she was on the beach with her friend. The friend added that she tried to control the dog but it attacked the victims again.

The UAE has strict pet ownership laws, with a banned breed list that includes all types of pitbull, wolf-dog hybrids, American Staffordshire terriers, Japanese tosa, Brazilian and Argentinian mastiffs, and crossbreeds of any of these six types. Others on the banned list include the American bully, rottweilers, breed or hybrid, doberman pinschers, perro de presa Canario, and boxers.

Ahmed plans to file a civil case against the dog owner and his sister for the pain and suffering endured by her and her children.

The trio has appealed the decision and is waiting for the new verdict on May 10.
