Leading Emirati businessman Easa Saleh Al Gurg passes away

Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid paid tribute to Al Gurg, calling him “one of the most important men in our national economy”

Emirati businessman, diplomat and philanthropist Easa Saleh Al Gurg passed away on Thursday leaving behind an enduring legacy in the regional business community. Al Gurg also made significant contributions towards the foundation of the UAE as a member of the Trucial States Development Board.

His multi-dimensional conglomerate, Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group (ESAG), works in retail, building and construction, industry and real estate with joint venture partnerships like Al Gurg Unilever, Siemens, Al Gurg Fosroc, Al Gurg Smollan, Akzo Nobel Decorative Paints, Siemens Healthcare and Siemens Mobility.

Al Gurg was the UAE Ambassador to the UK & the Republic of Ireland from 1991 till 2009 and was awarded a CBE (Commander in the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in 1990. He was also honoured by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late President and founder of the UAE, with the Order of Zayed II in 1997, the highest civilian order in the UAE.

Al Gurg was also known as a philanthropist and was involved with charitable work for several decades, and had noted that setting up the Al Gurg Charity Foundation was the best decision he had ever taken.

The Foundation was established in October 2010 under the decree of Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, financed by Al Gurg’s private funds and real estate.

Sheikh Mohammad paid tribute to Al Gurg on Twitter, calling him “one of the most important men in our national economy.”
